Meet Mrs. Kansas 2009 - Dianne Paukstelis

Dianne Paukstelis
Mrs. Kansas 2009
The show has come to a close and Kansas has a new
queen! Although all of the women lead accomplished
lives, Mrs. Dianne Paukstelis, just crowned Mrs.
Kansas America 2009 stood out from the rest.
Dianne
Paukstelis is proud to represent the married women of
the state of Kansas. No stranger to competitions,
Dianne has competed in local, state, and national
pageants and talent competitions off and on for over
25 years.
Dianne is the Executive Director for the United Way of
Riley County in Manhattan, Kansas. In her role as
executive director, Dianne urges everyone she meets to
“LIVE UNITED” and GIVE.ADVOCATE.VOLUNTEER. To lead by
example Dianne regularly volunteers in her community
and has served on boards or volunteered for the
K-State University Theatre Guild, Raising Riley,
Junior League of the Flint Hills, The Lou Douglass
Lecture Series, and the Manhattan Arts Center.
Under her leadership, in 2008 the United Way of Riley
County formed a student chapter at Kansas State
University, the United Way Students In Action. The
group creates a bridge between community and the
university by encouraging students to impact lives by
giving their time. Dianne saw a need for this type of
volunteer resource after a G4 tornado hit Manhattan,
Kansas in June 2008. Over 50 homes were destroyed, and
numerous businesses, a grade school, and much of the
K-State University campus were damaged. Student
volunteers were available, but they were not an
organized group.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from
the University of Kansas, and has worked for both
businesses and nonprofit agencies. Through 15 years of
practice, she has honed her skills in the areas of
business development, strategic planning, publicity,
marketing, and fundraising.
In addition to her day job at United Way, Dianne also
owns and operates a Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre. On
any given weekend Dianne can be found somewhere in
central Kansas with her acting troop being a British
spy, a fortune teller, a beauty contestant (go
figure!), a soap opera diva, or even a Douglas-fir
(Arbor Day rules – Burn Gas Not WOOD!).
Other than being crowned Mrs. Kansas, so far Dianne’s
biggest claim to fame is that of “reality TV star”. In
2000, Dianne and her husband Peter were living in Los
Angeles and Dianne gave birth on an episode of “A Baby
Story” on The Learning Channel. Giving birth on
national television was certainly not her most
glamorous moment – but unquestionably one of her most
interesting.
The 2009 Mrs. Kansas America winner receives more than $10,000 in
prizes including an all expense paid trip to the National Competition
Mrs. America, an Alberto Makali Evening Gown and wardrobe for use at
Mrs. America, $500 gift certificate from Sassy Chic, a 14K Gold Crown
Ring from Ballerina Jewelers, use of a custom evening gown from Frankie
Couture plus much more.
Meet Mrs. America 2009 ~ Andrea Robertson

Andrea was born and raised in St Charles, Missouri where she grew up
with her parents and three older brothers. She credits her brothers
with introducing her to the world of athletics and teaching her to be
strong, focused, and competitive. As a young girl, she played almost
every sport imaginable and continued to compete in athletics throughout
high school. She went on to play collegiate soccer at the University
of Missouri. Because of Title IX, the University of Missouri started a
women’s soccer team program in 1996, and she was a member of the
inaugural team serving as team captain for two years. Andrea graduated
from MU with a B.S. in biology and worked as a research biologist for a
major pharmaceutical company. Soon after college Andrea got engaged to
her high school sweetheart, Ryan, and they were married in August of
2000. Ryan was a professional basketball player and played one year in
the NBA for the Sacramento Kings. He then played in the European
Basketball League, and Andrea and Ryan lived in Holland, Greece and
France and experienced all the culture and excitement of life overseas.
After
the birth of their daughter Kylie, they moved back to America, much to
the delight of the grandparents! Andrea is now a stay at home mom to
their four-year old daughter Kylie and two year-old son JD and works as
a commercial/lifestyle model. Andrea’s passion for athletics is very
much alive as she is a competitive tri-athlete and has competed in more
than 50 triathlons, the longest of which was a half ironman. She is a
member of the St Louis Triathlon Club and TrismartUSA triathlon racing
team. Andrea also enjoys helping her church as part of the leadership
team of Cross Training Sports Ministry, which plans and organizes
sports events for children. Andrea and Ryan coach their daughter’s
basketball and soccer teams and proudly proclaim that both children
have a smooth follow through, though less than accurate shooting at
this time!
Andrea has chosen Fit
for Life as her platform and wants to spread her message that an active
lifestyle can have a positive impact on your family. Andrea also serves
as an ambassador for the Women’s Sports Foundation. This foundation
focuses on enhancing the lives of women and girls through sport and

Mrs. Kansas United States, 2009
Cydney Boler

To give a child a Court Appointed Special Advocate is to give them a
voice. To give them a voice is to give them hope. And to give them hope
is to give them the world. These are the words of a former foster child
whose life was forever changed by a CASA volunteer. This same sentiment
is near and dear to Cydney Boler, Mrs. Overland Park Kansas 2009. As a
CASA volunteer, Cydney seeks to impact the lives of children, who by no
fault of their own, find themselves thrust into our legal system each
and every day. Cydney plans to use her title as a microphone to
advocate for the needs of children in the state of Kansas as well as
children in need across the country. Cydney, age 31, is the mother of
her 10 month old baby boy Dalton, and a stepmother to her 6 year old
step-son Kaleb. Cydney’s husband Brad, is a certified pipe fitter and
they are both active in their church, the Overland Park Church of
Christ. Cydney graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with
a degree in Communications and then received her law degree from the
University of Iowa. She has worked as the Corporate Counsel for the
University of Kansas Medical Center Research Institute, Inc. for over
three years and she is working on completing her Masters degree in
Public Health from the Medical Center. The focus of her education is on
organizational change in research infrastructure, with an emphasis on
drug development and compliance. She hopes to make a positive impact on
the goal of the University to obtain its NCI designation and become the
first Comprehensive Cancer center in the Midwest. Her drive to further
her education has played an important role in her passion for
advocating for children. She has taken her love of reading and learning
and has incorporated this into her approach to connecting to kids.
Often times as a CASA volunteer, Cydney is the only stable person in
that child’s life. Cydney works with others in the social welfare
system to craft permanent placements for the children with the ultimate
goal of returning them to their homes. But when that goal fails, Cydney
works with others to find safe, permanent placements for children in
the Johnson County area. Cydney’s motto, “The impossible, what no one
can do until somebody does” continues to drive her and her faith in God
remains a constant companion through her life.

Meet Mrs. Missouri 2008, Rhonda Randolph

Rhonda Randolph, 2008 Rhonda before weight loss
Mrs. Missouri 2008
Whitening
Congratulations Rhonda! WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU!
Rhonda is a beautiful, vivacious 5'3" blonde with captivating amber eyes. She has a charming sense of humor and an infectious smile. One thing you can definitely say about Rhonda is that "big things come in small packages."
Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, Rhonda met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Reggie. They have been married for 20 years and have two beautiful children. Their daughter, Faith, is 18 years old and their son, Nathaniel, is 13 years old. Raising two teenagers not only keeps Rhonda young, but also makes her daily life full of laughter and what Rhonda likes to call, "adventurous parenting."
After being a full-time caregiver to her family for 10 years, in 1998 Rhonda attended Realty South Real Estate Institute and graduated top of her class. Rhonda received her commercial and residential real estate license. Rhonda moved with her family to Branson, Missouri, in 2005. Her husband works in the entertainment industry, and Rhonda accepted a job with World Mark by Wyndham Vacation Resorts, the largest hospitality company in the world. As a developer representative and sales consultant, she was named Rookie of the Year with Wyndham.
Rhonda has chosen as her platform "Overcoming Obesity." It is her mission to inspire women to fight and overcome obesity one day at a time. Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States today. Rhonda is passionate about helping women empower themselves with the tools of proper nutrition and physical fitness. By becoming healthy, women can change the quality of their lives. Rhonda's motivation and passion to help others fight this deadly disease comes from the fact that she, herself, is an obesity survivor.
Rhonda's platform is based on her personal story. Rhonda did not grow up obese; she was your average size child and teenager. When she married her husband in 1988 she thought anything was possible and all of her dreams were coming true. In 1990 she gained 120 pounds with the birth of her first child. One year later she found herself excited to be expecting again, but this time it was not to be. She had her first of two miscarriages with that pregnancy. In 1995 she became pregnant again and gave birth to her second child. Even though she loved being a mom, she looked in the mirror one morning and began to realize that she did not know herself anymore. That was the day she stepped on the scales and was shocked to see the number climb up to more than 265 lbs. She felt as if she was trapped in a body that did not belong to her.
This is where her journey began. Rhonda started trying every diet known to man and yet nothing seemed to work. She became more and more unhealthy. Her physical body began to hurt as well as the emotional toll her weight took on her self-esteem. She started to feel as if all of the dreams she had for her life were lost. Rhonda spent the next 14 years of her life in hopeless despair. She watched day after day as other people lived the life she longed for. How could she enjoy any physical activities with her children if she could not even tie her own shoes? How could she drive her children safely if she could not buckle a car seatbelt? How could she enjoy going out to eat if she could not fit into the chairs at the restaurant?
Rhonda started giving up on herself. It was hard for her to care for herself when she faced a world every day that laughed at her, and a world that made her feel like she did not belong. She was overlooked for job opportunities. The worst thing was when she was simply treated like she was invisible.
Rhonda's motivation for change came with the devastating news that her beloved father had terminal cancer and had been given 6 months to live. Rhonda ran to her dad's side. He looked at her with courage in his eyes and a smile on his face, and said, "This is not the end, but the beginning of a fight." Rhonda felt something stir in her that had not been there for years. She looked her dad right in his eyes and made this promise: "If you will get well, I will get healthy."
Rhonda felt a courage, motivation, and passion that she had never felt before. She immediately went to her doctor and for the first time as not embarrassed to say, "Help me!" She started working daily with a nutritionist and found out that she was diabetic, had developed a heart murmur, and arthritis from the years of being 150 pounds overweight. Rhonda started living a healthy lifestyle--not a diet program. She learned to eat 6 small meals a day and to enjoy any form of physical activity she was able to do.
After three long years she reached her goal. It was with the love and encouragement from her family that she found the strength just to keep trying everyday. It is the strength and courage that she saw in her father that has helped her keep the weight off.
In July of 2007, Rhonda's dad lost his battle to cancer and passed away in Rhonda's arms. She now carries him in her heart to encourage other people. Rhonda feels her dad gave her a gift to look at people with her heart, and to not prejudge them with her eyes. Rhonda wants to use the title of Mrs. Missouri to inspire women of all ages that they can change the quality of their own lives if they will just believe in themselves and take each day one day at a time.
Rhonda hopes her story will remind women of the power of a positive attitude. Rhonda asks: Why settle for a life in which you just exist, when you can life a life where dreams can come true? Through her own battle with obesity, Rhonda has learned to never compare herself with anyone else, because in life we are all on a different journey. Everyone has greatness inside of herself if they won't let rejections and criticism build up resentment, but will instead allow for unconditional forgiveness.
