I Am Missing Teeth

When you are missing one or more teeth, you may be particularly aware of their importance to your appearance and dental health. All your teeth work together to help you chew, speak, and smile. When teeth are missing, it is difficult to do these things. The loss of any tooth, in the front or back of your mouth, may cause your mouth to shift and your face to look older and in some instances causing pain in the jaw joint. Fortunately, missing teeth can be replaced, and they should be.

The Solution Options are:
  • Dental Implants: a dental implant is much like a natural tooth, which has a titanium root in your jawbone, topped by a tooth colored crown that you can see. Most patients find that an implant is secure and stable and the optimal replacement for their own tooth.
  • Fixed Bridge: spans the space where one or more teeth have been lost. A fixed bridge is bonded or cemented into place – only a dentist can remove it. While a fixed bridge is an excellent choice for tooth replacement the adjacent teeth will be prepared for crowns that serve as retainers that support the fixed bridge.
  • Removable “Bridge” or Removable “Partial Denture”: as the name describes, can be readily taken out of the mouth for cleaning. Removable bridges are usually less of an investment but, are usually less stable and may feel awkward until you eventually become accustomed to it.
  • Implant Retained Complete Dentures and Partials: when you are missing multiple teeth or all of your teeth Implant retained Complete Dentures and partials are an excellent choice. The implants stabilize the denture or partial by clipping in or being permanently screw retained which keeps them from moving when chewing and speaking.

I Lost A Filling

Whether it was last night or last month losing a filling is a never a pleasant experience. The interior exposed tooth is now more susceptible to decay and bacteria which can lead to sensitivity, pain and if left untreated may eventually lead to the need for more extensive treatment such as a root canal.

Depending upon the amount of tooth structure remaining the solutions could include:

  • Tooth Colored Bonded Filling: as the name describes this filling is actually bonded to your tooth and is the color of your natural tooth. Old style mercury silver colored fillings tend to leak around the edges and are not done in our practice.
  • Porcelain Crown: when too much tooth structure is lost due to breakage or decay to restore a tooth with a filling a porcelain crown is the treatment of choice. Our porcelain crowns are tooth colored and shaped to feel and chew like your natural teeth.

Sometimes there is accompanying pain and at times there are no symptoms at all. Restoring the tooth as soon as possible is advisable. If left untreated, the break may eventually lead to more extensive treatment such as a root canal or even extraction.
