Tooth putting on a crown

Dental crowns are able to protect compromised teeth from additional damage. This can help the teeth to last much longer than they would have otherwise. It used to take several weeks for someone to get a new dental crown, but with modern dental techniques and technology, you can now get your restoration on the same day! Continue reading to learn more about same-day dental crowns and what the process looks like.

How Are Same-Day Dental Crowns Created?

Making a same-day dental crown is a relatively straightforward process. After a three-dimensional impression is taken of your teeth with a small camera, we make a digital version. This way, you don’t need to bite into any gooey material like the olden days. After this, the same-day crown machine uses computer-aided design and manufacturing to fabricate the tooth from a block of tooth-colored crown material. Since photos and computer models are so accurate, the crown is made to your dentist’s exact specifications. As soon as the crown is made, it is glazed and color-matched to fit the exact shade of your surrounding teeth. Lastly, the crown is cemented into place.

How Long Does It Take to Make Same-Day Dental Crowns?

It usually takes about two hours for your crown to be made. This can be done during the same visit to the dental office. Once your dentist reshapes your tooth for the crown, you just need to sit in the chair for a quick photo impression, and the computer does pretty much all of the rest of the work for you. It only takes a few minutes for the crown to be placed when it is complete and then you will be all done!

What Are the Benefits of Same-Day Dental Crowns?

Same-day dental crowns are very durable and reliable, just like traditional dental crowns. The main difference is that they are so much quicker to make. Crowns can last anywhere from 10 to 15 years or longer when cared for properly. They are made to be as comfortable as natural teeth and look just like them too!
