Who is a Good Candidate for Teeth Whitening?

If you want to know whether you are a good candidate for teeth whitening, make sure to schedule a consultation with Dr. Bridenstine. This visit will determine what kind of stains you have (i.e., intrinsic, extrinsic, age-related, etc.), and how significant this level of discoloration will be. Before we begin any kind of cosmetic dentistry treatment, though, we will conduct an oral examination to determine if you have any cavities, gum disease, infection, or damage that needs to be addressed before whitening your teeth.

In-Office Teeth Whitening

In-office teeth whitening usually only takes about one hour to complete, making it an excellent solution to achieve a brighter set of pearly whites on the same day. Dr. Bridenstine will apply the bleaching gel to your tooth enamel and use appropriate lighting to activate the ingredients. This will ensure that it penetrates the top layer and begins to break-up stains and discoloration all in one appointment.

Take-Home Teeth Whitening

With a custom-made set of trays and bleaching gel, our team will present these products to you and discuss how you can expect to see noticeable results within two weeks. As long as you wear them correctly each day, you will see the discoloration fade from your smile, leaving behind results that will give you something to truly smile about.

Our Whitening for Life Program

We believe all people deserve to smile like the stars, so we’ve established our Whitening for Life program. We’ll provide custom-made trays and whitening gel for you to wear for one hour each day for two weeks. With each application, a lighter shade will begin to form until your smile is a full 8-10 shades lighter than when you initially started.

This unique program is only available to those who come and see us every six months for a dental checkup and cleaning. If you do, you’ll receive a complimentary tube of whitening gel each time you come in. Three days after your six-month visit, you’ll wear your trays so that your smile appears brighter and is more likely to last longer.

Teeth Whitening FAQs

Is Teeth Whitening Permanent?

The results of your teeth whitening treatment can last anywhere from a few months to a few years. It depends largely on how well you care for your smile! That’s why we recommend incorporating certain habits into your daily routine, like using a straw when you drink your morning cup of coffee and brushing your teeth for two full minutes each night before you go to bed.

It’s also important that we mention here that you can maintain your bright, brilliant smile with our Whitening for Life program! This is available to our patients who visit us every six months for their checkup and cleaning. If that’s the case for you, then we will provide you with a complimentary tube of whitening gel at each visit.

How Long Does Teeth Whitening Take?

How long it takes to achieve the healthy, gorgeous smile that you deserve depends on a few factors, including whether any preliminary care is needed, if you choose an in-office or take-home whitening treatment, and your unique smile goals. That’s why we advise against waiting until a week or two before a special event to begin the process. Instead, you should schedule a consultation with our dedicated dentists when you first decide that you want to address stubborn stains.

Is There Anything I Shouldn’t Eat After Whitening My Teeth?

Yes. Following your teeth whitening treatment, you should steer clear of pigmented foods and sauces. A few examples include BBQ sauce, beets, dark chocolate, and ketchup. Instead, we recommend filling your plate with cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, white fish, plain yogurt, and other light-colored foods since they won’t cause stubborn stains to resurface.

How Can I Make Teeth Whitening More Affordable?

As you may have already guessed, dental insurance providers typically don’t cover the cost of teeth whitening treatments since they aren’t “medically necessary.” The good news is that there is another way you can make the price of teeth whitening in Lenexa more affordable: flexible financing! At our office, we welcome payment plans with trusted third-party financiers, like CareCredit. As a result, you can break up the total cost into smaller, more manageable chunks that fit comfortably within your monthly budget.

Can I Drink Coffee After Whitening My Teeth?

We don’t recommend drinking coffee following your teeth whitening treatment, especially if your morning or afternoon cup was what brought you to our office in the first place. However, we also know that – for many patients – this is a part of their daily routine. If that’s the case for you, then we recommend drinking it the “smile-friendly” way. That means using a straw, keeping sugar and other additives to a minimum, and rinsing your mouth thoroughly with water when you’re done.
